Design Residency
A MEXICAN PROJECT FOR TRINITATE

Design residency in Mexico, more than a project, was an experience that involved me physically and psychologically. The purpose of this ten-day trip has put NABA (the school where I studied) into communication with Trinitate, a leading company in the production of handmade pieces made of ceramic and terra cotta.

Each of us had the task of making a small object for the house, which would have been enriched with leather inserts and blue colors. The design started in Italy, with the sketches and the first ideas, but then it was deepened directly in the Mexican laboratories, where we guys had the opportunity to work side by side with the local artisans.

My project involves the construction of a terracotta door holder with a leather insert that highlights the handle. The design started by analyzing the tiles that were already produced by the company. The shape of the tile has been slightly redesigned, and then mirrored specularly around its axis. In this way I obtained a closed object that could act as a container. In Mexico the plaster model was made, which was then used to create the mold.
